The Lent, Holy Week and Easter services provide an opportunity to take part in an annual pilgrimage or journey without ever leaving home. Many Christians use this season to create a little more time and space in their busy lives for God. They do so in the hope that God will take their offering and do something significant with it.
George Herbert expresses in this poem Trinity Sunday something of the Christian's hope for what that work of God might be:
Lord, who hast form'd me out of mud,
And hast redeem'd me though thy blood, And sanctified me to do good;
Purge all my sins done heretofore;
For I confess my heavy score,
And I will strive to sin no more.
Enrich my heart, mouth, hands in me, With faith, with hope, with charity; That I may run, rise, rest with thee.
